Monsters Vs Aliens UK Premiere

Story by Jack Foley

REESE Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland brought a touch of glamour to the UK premiere of new animated movie Monsters Vs Aliens in London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.

The stars spent time chatting with fans, posing for photos and signing autographs at the red carpet event, while a giant woman was seen strutting down the carpet and a giant blue blob kept crowds amused.

Monsters Vs Aliens is the first DreamWorks Animation computer animated movie to be produced in real 3-D, instead of converting the film into 3-D after it is finished, and is being touted as the future of cinema by Jeffrey Katzenberg, head of DreamWorks Animation.

The film follows a young woman (voiced by Witherspoon) who is hit by a meteorite on her wedding day and turned into a giant monster. She is taken to a secret government compound where she meets a fellow group of monsters, who are subsequently called in to combat alien invaders and save the planet from imminent doom.

Sutherland lends his voice to one of the military commanders.

The 24 star told reporters at Sky News that the film provided him with a tremendous opportunity to broaden his range, adding that he completed his role while filming the latest series of his real-time TV hit.

“When you see the unbelievable advancements that animation is making from a technological perspective – that makes it exciting,” he added.

Monsters Vs Aliens opens in UK cinemas on April 3, 2009.
