Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes production delayed

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Story by Jack Foley

MORTAL Instruments: City of Ashes, the sequel to Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, has been delayed following the poor box office showing of the original.

Constantin Films has delayed the production of the next installment, saying in a statement that the delay is “to analyze the results to date and reposition the franchise in order to maximize the results for future installments”.

Since opening in August, the $60 million dollar adaptation of the Cassandra Clare Young Adult novel series has grossed more than $70 million worldwide but only $28 million in the US.

When commissioned into a film series, Constantin had envisaged a new franchise to possibly replace Twilight.

It’s not yet known what the delay means for those attached to the sequel, including director Harald Zwart and stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower.
