MTV Movie Awards 2013: Django Unchained and Ted lead nominees

Django Unchained

Story by Jack Foley

QUENTIN Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Seth McFarlane’s Ted head the nominations for this year’s MTV Movie Awards with seven nods each.

The awards, which follow the main prize-giving season, are designed to reflect more popular movie choices and include categories for best villain, best kiss, best shirtless performance and best on-screen duo, as well as more traditional ones such as best actor, actress and film.

Silver Linings Playbook and The Dark Knight Rises were the next most nominated films, with five apiece.

Recent Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence landed five individual nominations, including best female performance for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, best kiss, best on-screen duo and best musical moment along with co-star Bradley Cooper.

And Seth MacFarlane, who hosted last month’s Oscars, is up for four awards including best shirtless performance.

Teen hit The Perks of Being a Wallflower landed three nods, including one for former Harry Potter star Emma Watson (best female performance), who Tweeted afterwards: “Perks is nominated for four awards at the 2013 MTV movie awards! :)”

The film is also shortlisted for best kiss and for breakthrough performance for Ezra Miller, who is also known for his role in We Need to Talk About Kevin.

Twilight, which has dominated the awards in previous years, only picked up one nomination for Taylor Lautner’s shirtless performance despite closing out the franchise last year with final instalment, Breaking Dawn Part 2.

The awards will be hosted by Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids actress Rebel Wilson, with winners receiving golden popcorn trophies. She is nominated for breakthrough performance.

They will be handed out on April 14, 2013.
