Naomi Watts tops Forbes value-for-money list
Story by Jack Foley
AUSTRALIAN actress Naomi Watts has topped a list of actresses that offer the best value-for-money for studios.
The King Kong and Eastern Promises star provides the most box office return for the fee she is paid to appear in a movie, according to a top 10 compiled by Forbes.com.
She out-performs higher earners such as Angelina Jolie, who topped Forbes list of the best paid actress by earning $27 million a year without necessarily offering high box office returns.
Watts, who is believed to earn around $5 million a movie, is estimated to have helped the box office make $44 for every $1 she was paid for the last three movies she appeared in, thereby topping the list of smart investment choices.
Jennifer Connelly came second thanks to the success of films like Blood Diamond and He’s Just Not That Into You, which earned about $41 for every $1 paid, while Rachel McAdams (of Time Traveller’s Wife fame) was third with $30 for every $1.
The remainder of the top 10 was made up of Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Hilary Swank.
In arriving at their top 10, Forbes said that to qualify, each actress had to have starred in at least three movies in the past five years that opened in more than 500 theatres.
