Ophelia Lovibond joins Guardians of the Galaxy
Story by Jack Foley
BRITISH actress Ophelia Lovibond has joined the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The project is a space-set adventure movie and stars Chris Pratt as Star Lord, a character who leads a group that includes a green-skinned assassin named Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana) and Drax the Destroyer (WWE star Dave Bautista).
It forms part of Marvel’s phase two of its superhero film slate and will be directed by James Gunn.
Very few details have been released about the extent of Lovibond’s role but, according to The Hollywood Reporter, she will play an aide to a near-immortal being called The Collector, who gathers artifacts and beings in the hopes of saving them from a foretold galactic annihilation.
Filming is due to commence in June with a view to having the film ready for a US release in August 2014.
Lovibond is the latest addition to an ever-expanding cast. The Walking Dead‘s Michael Rooker has also recently joined as a bow-and-arrow-loving alien named Yondu.
Lovibond’s film credits include movies such as 220.127.116.11., Nowhere Boy, Mr. Popper’s Penguins and No Strings Attached (pictured) with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. She also starred in the TV mini-series Titanic.
