Patty Jenkins to direct Wonder Woman 2

Wonder Woman

Story by Jack Foley

PATTY Jenkins is returning for Wonder Woman 2, it has finally been confirmed.

The filmmaker will also co-write and produce the sequel to one of the few movie sensations of the summer.

What’s more, the deal is being described as precedent setting by The Hollywood Reporter, given that it makes Jenkins the highest-paid female filmmaker in history.

The trade magazine quotes sources as saying that Jenkins will receive directing and writing fees in the high seven figures (rumoured to be between $7 and $9 million) for the sequel. She will also have a considerable backend to the profits – which is even more significant given how lucrative the Wonder Woman franchise already is.

Ironically, Jenkins only took to the director’s chair for the original Wonder Woman as a replacement for Michelle McLaren, who left the project over creative differences.

The ensuing movie became a huge hit, raking in over $103 million in its opening weekend and setting a number of records, including becoming the highest grossing live-action film ever directed by a woman. The film has now crossed $800 million worldwide.

Wonder Woman 2, which will also see leading lady Gal Gadot return to the role, is currently dated for a release on December 13, 2019. Prior to that, Wonder Woman will be seen as part of the Justice Leauge line-up later this year.
