PAUL Bettany has joined the cast of Ron Howard’s Han Solo spin-off.

Howard revealed the news himself, by sharing a picture of Bettany on the set of the Star Wars stand-alone.

He wrote: “The Outer Rim just got a little bit wilder #PaulBettany #ForceFriday.”

This was later followed by a more official confirmation, in which Howard stated: “It’s my third opportunity to work with Paul. He’s a blast & so talented.”

Howard previously directed Bettany in his Oscar-winning A Beautiful Mind as well as The Da Vinci Code.

Bettany’s casting means he will feature in two major Disney blockbusters that are currently scheduled for release in May 2018. In addition to the Han Solo movie, Avengers: Infinity War is still on course to open that month, in which Bettany will reprise his role as The Vision.

Howard took over the still as-yet untitled Han Solo spin-off when former directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord were fired after clashing with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan.

The Han Solo movie opens on May 25, 2018.
