Paul Bettany to play Vision in The Avengers: The Age of Ultron
Story by Jack Foley
PAUL Bettany is to continue his association with the Marvel brand by playing iconic Avenger hero the Vision in The Avengers: The Age of Ultron.
The British actor has long been lending his voice to Jarvis, the computer butler in Marvel’s Iron Man movies, but has now enjoyed an upgrade of sorts.
It’s also a bit of casting news that could explain how Ant-Man could now feed into the Marvel film universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ultron is a classic Marvel villain who was created by Dr Hank Pym, who he looked at as a father figure before turning on Pym, as well as humanity, and fathering his own creation, the synthetic orange-skinned android known as Vision.
Vision, for his part, rejects Ultron and joins The Avengers, eventually striking up a romance with the Scarlett Witch.
As has been previously announced, Michael Douglas has been cast as Pym in Ant-Man, which opens on July 17, 2015, after Age of Ultron, which is due on May 1.
Joss Whedon is directing the Avengers sequel, which also now includes new cast members Elizabeth Olsen as the aforementioned Scarlett Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver.
James Spader has already been announced as the lead villain, Ultron, with Thomas Kretschmann playing Baron Strucker.
Bettany can next be seen in Transcendence opposite Johnny Depp.
