PAUL Dano has joined the cast of The Batman as classic villain The Riddler, Warner Bros. announced Thursday.

The Matt Reeves’ directed movie will see Dano playing a version of the character named Edward Nashton, the man who in the comics later goes by the name Edward Nygma and adopts the villainous persona.

Frank Gorshin and John Astin played the villain in the 1960s TV series, while Jim Carrey played him in 1995’s Batman Forever, directed by Joel Schumacher.

The DC film has already cast Robert Pattinson as The Batman, with Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Jeffrey Wright as Batman ally Commissioner Gordon.

Jonah Hill was at one point eyeing a role in the film as either Riddler or The Penguin, but has since withdrawn after a deal could not be reached.

Reeves has said he plans to include a rogues gallery of Batman villains in the new film, plot details of which are being kept under wraps.

Dano was recently nominated for an Emmy for his role in Ben Stiller’s critically-acclaimed mini-series Escape at Dannemora.

The actor also directed, co-wrote and produced the critically-acclaimed film Wildlife, while his other film credits include Love and Mercy, Prisoners, 12 Years a Slave, There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine and Okja.

The Batman is due to open on June 25, 2021.
