Paul Giamatti in talks for Rhino in Spider-Man 2
Story by Jack Foley
PAUL Giamatti is reportedly in talks to play Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
If successful, he would join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, who will return as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively, and new cast members Jamie Foxx as bad guy Electro, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Rhino first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #41 way back in 1966 as a thug from a Soviet Bloc country who wore a superhuman that gave him super-strength and super-speed.
The character earned his name because of the deadly horn on top of the suit.
In more recent comics, however, he became a sympathetic figure who found himself allying with Spider-Man.
It is unclear in what capacity Rhino would appear in the sequel.
But Giamatti is a long-term fan of the character, telling ShowbizSpy in 2011 that he thought “Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid”.
British actress Felicity Jones is also reportedly in negotiations for a role in the film, although as yet her character remains unspecified.
Marc Webb will direct the sequel, which is currently looking to start shooting in February.
