Paul Greengrass to direct The Trial of the Chicago 7 movie
Story by Jack Foley
PAUL Greengrass is to direct The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The film, based on a script by Aaron (The Social Network) Sorkin, was originally to have been directed by Steven Spielberg and has been knocking around Hollywood since its conception in 2007 but got delayed because of the writers’ strike.
Greengrass – whose latest film, Captain Phillips, with Tom Hanks opens later this year – has now stepped into the fray to rescue it.
The film follows the aftermath of the 1968 Democratic national convention in Chicago, which was beset by violent protests and battles with police.
The seven were a group of activists – including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden – who were put on trial for inciting riots but eventually cleared on appeal.
