Paul Walker character to be retired from Fast & Furious franchise
Story by Jack Foley
THE character played by Paul Walker in the Fast & Furious franchise is to be ‘retired’ rather than killed off, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Brian O’Conner will be written out in a respectful way so that footage already shot of the actor can be used, according to sources close to the production.
The decision to move the release date of the seventh movie in the franchise by eight months to April 10, 2015, will give director James Wan and writers Chris Morgan and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum to ensure that O’Conner remains part of the story.
It will also enable the crew to film additional scenes that will enable this to occur.
Walker was killed in a car crash midway through the shoot of Fast & Furious 7, promoting production on the film to be delayed while Universal considered a way forward without him.
It is hoped that the decision to retire the character will satisfy fans of the franchise.
