Peter Morgan to co-write 23rd James Bond movie
Story by Jack Foley
AWARD-winning British writer Peter Morgan is to collaborate with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace co-writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade on the 23rd James Bond adventure.
Although a name and start date for filming on the next 007 adventure has yet to be confirmed, the film will mark Daniel Craig’s third outing as the world-famous British spy – and expectations are high following the global success of his previous two outings.
Morgan is best known for work including The Queen and – most recently – Frost/Nixon and Brian Clough biopic The Damned United.
He first came to prominence with his TV screenplay The Deal, which focused on Tony Blair (played by Michael Sheen) and his relationship with Gordon Brown in the early ’90s.
Blair [once again played by Sheen] featured prominently in his screenplay for The Queen and again comes under the spotlight in Morgan’s current project, The Special Relationship, which he is completing for US cable channel HBO.
The film will see Sheen reprising his role as former Prime Minister Tony Blair for the third time, alongside Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton.
He is also writing the forthcoming Dreamworks movie Hereafter before he starts works on Bond 23.
But commenting on the announcement, the film’s producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said: “Peter, Neal and Robert are extraordinarily talented. We’re looking forward to working with the three of them.”
Purvis and Wade are regular Bond scribes, having previously teamed up for Pierce Brosnan outings Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough.
They received widespread acclaim for their work on franchise reboot Casino Royale, alongside Crash writer-director Paul Haggis, but Quantum of Solace attracted a mixed critical reaction despite being an overwhelming commercial success.
Morgan won a Golden Globe in 2007 for his work on The Queen and is currently one of the most sought after writers in showbusiness.
