Peyton Reed to replace Edgar Wright as Ant-Man director
Story by Jack Foley
PEYTON Reed is to replace Edgar Wright as the director of Marvel’s Ant-Man.
His previous films include Bring It On, Down With Love and The Break-Up – although his most recent film was Yes Man, which starred Jim Carey.
However, Reed is no stranger to the Marvel universe, having developed Fantastic Four at Fox for years before Tim Story took over the property.
News of Reed’s appointment was unveiled on the Marvel official website on Saturday (June 7), when it was also confirmed that Anchorman luminary Adam McKay will work on the script. McKay had been in the running to direct but dropped out.
The film will star Paul Rudd in the lead role, as well as Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson.
In addition to the creative appointments, Marvel have also released a new, more detailed synopsis for the film.
Con-man Scott Lang (Rudd), who has the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats.
Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Original director Wright had been with Ant-Man since 2006 but exited the movie on May 23, citing “creative differences”.
