Phoebe Waller-Bridge set to liven up script for Bond 25

Story by Jack Foley

FLEABAG creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has reportedly been hired to liven up the script of the forthcoming James Bond film.

According to The Observer, the talented comedian, writer and actress was specifically requested by Daniel Craig, aka 007 himself, who met with her while in New York, where she has been performing a stage version of Fleabag.

If reports are true, the script rework could delay the start of filming on the 25th instalment of the spy franchise still further, given that it has already been delayed following the departure of original director Danny Boyle over creative differences.

Cary Fukunaga, of True Detective fame, has since been hired to direct and pre-production has already reportedly started at locations in Italy, Norway and Jamaica, as well as at its regular base, Pinewood in the UK.

It is thought that Craig felt the current script, by 007 veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, was in need of some ‘polishing’ to make it funnier and fresher.

Aside from Fleabag, Waller-Bridge also won widespread acclaim for her script for the award-winning first season of TV spy series Killing Eve, which was notable for the way in which it continually sprung surprises within the genre and even subverted it.
