Pokemon movie gets two writers

Story by Jack Foley

NICOLE Perlman and Alex Hirsch are in negotiations to write the live-action feature film version of Pokémon.

According to Variety, the film will be based on the upcoming game Detective Pikachu.

The news comes after Legendary secured the rights to the Pokémon franchise in July, following the world-wide release of the Pokemon Go app, which has since become a global phenomenon.

In app form, the augmented reality game allows players to capture, battle and train the Pokemon virtual creatures.

Of the two film writers, Perlman cut her teeth in Marvel’s writers’ room, penning such comic-book hits such as Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. She has now been tasked by Marvel to write the script for Captain Marvel along with Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve, as well as helping to develop the third Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr.

Hirsch is best known for creating Disney’s cult favourite Gravity Falls.
