Principal photography begins on Elizabeth McGovern's The Chaperone

Story by Jack Foley

PRINCIPAL photography has begun on The Chaperone, a new romantic drama starring Elizabeth McGovern.

The film has been adapted by Academy Award®-winner Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, Downton Abbey) and is based on Laura Moriarty’s best-selling novel of the same name.

The story follows a woman (McGovern) whose life is changed forever when she chaperones a young and soon to be famous Louise Brooks (Haley Lu Richardson) to New York.

Multiple Emmy® and DGA-nominated Michael Engler (Downton Abbey) is to direct the film, while Academy Award®-nominated McGovern will also serve as a producer. The actress, who previously teamed up with Fellowes on Downton Abbey, optioned the novel and worked with Fellowes to adapt it for the big screen.

Also starring in The Chaperone are Victoria Hill (December Boys, First Reformed), Campbell Scott (House of Cards, Damages), Geza Rohrig (Son of Saul), Blythe Danner (Gypsy, Madoff) and Miranda Otto (The Lord of The Rings, Homeland).

PBS Distribution is planning a theatrical release of The Chaperone in the United States in 2018.
