Principal photography begins on Will Ferrell's Downhill

Story by Jack Foley

PRINCIPAL photography has begun on Downhill, an adaptation of the 2014 Golden Globe nominated Swedish film Force Majeure.

The film, which is written by Jesse Armstrong (In The Loop, Four Lions) and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (The Way, Way Backl), stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Will Ferrell, Miranda Otto, Zach Woods, Zoë Chao, Julian Grey, Ammon Jacob Ford and Kristofer Hivju.

In Downhill, barely escaping an avalanche during a ski vacation in the Alps throws a seemingly picture-perfect family into disarray as they are forced to re-evaluate life, and how they truly feel about each other.

Commenting from the set in Austria, Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus said: “(I’m) thrilled to have completed my first day of filming with Jim and Nat and Will Ferrell and my friends at Likely Story here in Austria; it’s all Downhill from here.”

Directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash commented: “Obviously, Fox Searchlight is like family at this point. We’re honoured to be working with them for a third time. But, to also have our paths cross with Julia, and a fellow Groundling alum in Will, makes this all the more special and exciting for us.”

Producer Anthony Bregman added: “Downhill is a tale of bad judgement and moral weakness, so how fitting that Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell embody those values. Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, of course, are more than qualified to capture the fallout.”

Fox Searchlight Pictures is a specialty film company that both finances and acquires motion pictures. It has its own marketing and distribution operations, and its films are distributed internationally by Twentieth Century Fox. Fox Searchlight Pictures is a unit of Twentieth Century Fox Film.

Downhill will be released either later this year or early next (2020). Filming is currently taking place in and around Ischgl, Fiss and Vienna.
