RALPH Fiennes and Matthew Goode will join Keira Knightley and Matt Smith in the real-life spy thriller Official Secrets.

The film focuses on British intelligence whistle-blower Katharine Gun (played by Knightley), who, during the immediate run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion, leaked a top-secret National Security Agency memo exposing a joint US-UK illegal spying operation against members of the UN Security Council.

Oscar-winner Gavin Hood (of Tsotsi and Eye In The Sky fame) will direct from a script by Sara and Greg Bernstein. It is based on the novel The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War, by Marcia and Thomas Mitchell.

Shooting is due to begin next month in this country.

Fiennes, who was last seen in the Coen brothers movie Hail, Caesar!, will next be seen in the Sherlock Holmes comedy Holmes and Watson, alongside Will Ferrell and John C Reilly.

Goode featured in the most recent season of Netflix’s The Crown.
