Rambo heads to Burma

Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo

Story by Jack Foley

SYLVESTER Stallone’s Vietnam veteran John Rambo is to venture to Burma for his latest mission, it has been revealed.

According to US magazine Entertainment Weekly, Rambo IV will start shooting in Thailand in October 2006 and has been inspired by a story its writer, Stallone, found in a Soldier of Fortune magazine.

According to the actor, he called the magazine to ask: ‘What is the most critical man-doing-inhumanity-to-man situation right now in the world? Where is it?’”

The resulting conversation enabled Stallone – who is currently completing work on a sixth Rocky Balboa film – to locate the action to Burma, where Rambo is found living a secluded, basic lifestyle in Bangkok, salvaging old boats for metal.

When a group of aid workers vanishes, however, a relative of one of the missing volunteers begs John to help find them, so he gamely enlists a troupe of young recruits to help him do so.

Stallone has completed a draft of the script and is keen to get the cameras rolling – although there’s no word on a release date as yet and the film has yet to attract a distributor.

Perhaps they’ll be waiting to see how Rocky Balboa fares one last time before committing to another of Sly’s movie veterans.
