Rebecca Ferguson joins Emily Blunt for The Girl on the Train

REBECCA Ferguson has landed a key role in highly anticipated literary adaptation, The Girl On The Train.

The Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation star will take on the role of Anna, who is married to the ex-husband of the central character Rachel, played by Emily Blunt.

The story focuses on three women who become embroiled in a murder mystery after one of them becomes obsessed with a couple she regularly sees from her daily train commute.

As yet, the third female role is yet to be announced.

In literary form, Paula Hawkins’ novel has broken records, becoming the fastest selling adult novel in history.

But while the book is set in England, the novel will transport the action to New York.

Hawkins has herself has decided not to be involved in the screenplay, stating that she is happy for them to “get on with it”.

The film will be directed by Tate Taylor, whose best known film remains The Help.

Swedish actress Ferguson was on scene stealing form alongside Tom Cruise in the most recent Mission: Impossible but is also well known for her work in BBC drama The White Queen and alongside Dwayne Johnson in Hercules.

She will next be seen in cold war thriller Despite The Falling Snow before then starring alongside Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant in Florence Foster Jenkins.
