REESE Witherspoon looks set to star in a live action version of Tinker Bell for Disney.

The Oscar-winning actress is attached to both star in and produce Tink, a live-action take on the classic Peter Pan character – who also has her own animated franchise.

Victoria Strouse, who penned the script for Pixar’s upcoming Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory, is on board as the writer, although a director has yet to be found and the project is still in development.

Plot details are also being kept under wraps but, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will play with the idea and the timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative.

It is also being developed in the vein of Disney’s 2014 hit Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, which followed the evil character from Sleeping Beauty. Like Maleficent, Tink is being conceived as “the story you don’t know” so as to bring a fresh perspective on the character.

Despite being a non-talking supporting character in J.M. Barrie’s original Pan story, Tinker Bell has since become one of Disney’s most recognisable characters.

She has her own animated film franchise, the most recent of which, The Legend of the Neverbeast, was released in cinemas last year.
