Richard Armitage joins Ocean's Eight

Story by Jack Foley

RICHARD Armitage has joined the cast of Ocean’s Eight.

The British actor will line-up alongside the all-female ensemble of Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter for the Ocean’s 11 spin-off.

As yet, details of Armitage’s character remain a secret but he is the latest male member to join the cast following last week’s announcement of James Corden. Billions star Damian Lewis is also on board, while Gary Ross will direct from a script he wrote.

Armitage is currently the lead in Olen Steinhauer’s Berlin Station, a contemporary spy series from Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, which is entering its second season.

He is also known for his portrayal of the heroic Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, as well as for British TV hits Spooks and Strike Back.

Armitage also recently enjoyed a triumphant New York theatre debut in the comedy Love, Love, Love, at the Roundabout, in which he starred opposite Amy Ryan.

His previous theatre credits include Yael Farber’s 2015 production of The Crucible at The Old Vic in London.
