Richard Gere to star in Three Christs

Arbitrage

Story by Jack Foley

RICHARD Gere is to play the lead in a new movie called Three Christs.

Based on a biographical novel Rokeach’s Christs of Ypsilanti: A Narrative Study of Three Lost Men by Milton Rokeach, the film will follow the story of a doctor who treated three paranoid schizophrenic patients who all believed they were Jesus Christ.

The treatment took place at the Ypsilanti State Hospital in Michigan and is said to be both comic and deeply moving, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jon Avnet is directing the project and would be reuniting with Gere for the first time since they worked together on the controversial thriller Red Corner in 1997 – a film that led to Chinese star Bai Ling having her Chinese citizenship revoked.

Given its religious themes, Three Christs could be a similarly controversial venture for both star and director.

Gere will next be seen in Oren Moverman’s star-studded family drama The Dinner alongside Steve Coogan, Chloe Sevigny, Rebecca Hall and Laura Linney
