Ridley Scott to direct Alien prequel
Story by Jack Foley
RIDLEY Scott is to direct the prequel to his seminal science fiction movie Alien.
Variety reports that the director will return to the franchise to oversee a story that is being polished by writer of the moment, Jon Spaihts.
It will precede Scott’s 1979 groundbreaker, which followed the crew of a commercial towing ship as they were sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planet, only to unwittingly bring back a predatory alien.
Spaihts has recently been hired to write a number of sci-fi themed movies. Other works include the Keanu Reeves projects Shadow 19 and Passengers, as well as Disney’s Children of Mars and another Fox project, The Darkest Hour.
He landed the Alien job after producers at Fox, who have long been looking to revive the Alien franchise as a separate entity, liked his vision for the prequel.
