ROBERT Downey Jr. has confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the fourth Avengers movie.

The actor posted a picture of a director’s chair bearing the name Tony Stark to his Instagram account, by way of satisfying his many fans.

The image also shows three other chairs featuring the names of Scarlett Johanson’s Black Widow alter-ago Natasha Romanov, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang (Ant-Man), and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers (Captain America).

It means that all of those characters will be appearing in the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War, the third film in the Avengers movies, which is due to be released next year (2018).

The as-yet untitled fourth film in the Avengers franchise will follow in 2019 and already has Joe and Anthony Russo attached to direct, following their sterling work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and the forthcoming Infinity War.

Further confirmed members of the fourth Avengers movie cast are Josh Brolin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Favreau, Chadwick Boseman, Jeremy Renner and Karen Gillan, as well as Brie Larsson’s Captain Marvel, who is set to make her own stand-alone debut in a 2019 film directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

The fourth Avengers movie is currently scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019, with Avengers: Infinity War preceding it on April 27 next year.
