Robert Pattinson in contention to play Batman for Matt Reeves

Remember Me

Story by Jack Foley

FORMER Twilight leading man Robert Pattinson has emerged as a front-runner to play the role of Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming DC movie.

At this stage, it is unclear whether an offer has been made to the British star, or if a deal is even close. But Pattinson has been identified as a favourite to land the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

If successful, Pattinson would step into the Bat-suit recently vacated by Ben Affleck.

Reeves, who was behind the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy, took over directing duties on the superhero stand-alone after Affleck stepped away from the director’s chair in 2017. Affleck later departed the project completely, having played Batman twice, in Batman V Superman and Justice League.

The Batman is based on a script by Reeves and is set to feature a ‘rogues gallery’ of villains. The fiklm is set for a June 25, 2021 release.

Since becoming a global phenomenon as part of the Twilight franchise, Pattinson has largely shied away from blockbuster fare, opting for more dramatic roles in the likes of Remember Me, Water For Elephants, Good Time and – about the open in cinemas – the critically-acclaimed space drama High Life.
