Robert Redford and Jason Segel for sci-fi The Discovery

Story by Jack Foley

ROBERT Redford and Jason Segel have signed on to star in Charlie McDowell’s sci-fi drama The Discovery.

The duo will join the previously cast Rooney Mara.

Written by McDowell and Justin Lader, the film is set in a world two years after the existence of an afterlife has been scientifically proven.

The discovery results in millions of people taking their own lives in the belief that suicide is like pushing a re-set button.

Segel will play the son of the man responsible for the Discovery (Redford), while Mara plays a woman Segel’s character falls in love with, whose life is tinged by a tragic past.

Segel is a late addition to the project, having stepped in when Nicholas Hoult dropped out due to scheduling conflicts – he is about to start filming Xavier Dolan’s The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.

The Discovery will mark McDowell’s second feature film following his critically acclaimed The One I Love, starring Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss.
