Robert Redford to play Dan Rather in Truth

All Is Lost

Story by Jack Foley

ROBERT Redford is to play Dan Rather in new political drama Truth.

Based on the 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power, the film will focus on the political row that followed the revelation by Rather in 2004 that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.

The report turned out to be based on documents that were found to be forgeries.

The memoir was written by Rather’s producer Mary Mapes, who will be played by Cate Blanchett in the film.

The falllout from the row that followed saw Mapes accused of lapses in judgment and fired, while Rather’s career and reputation were never the same.

James Vanderbilt, who wrote the screenplays for The Amazing Spider-Man and White House Down, will adapt the screenplay and make his directorial debut with the project.
