Russo brothers in line for Captain America sequel

Captain America: The First Avenger

ANTHONY and Joe Russo look set to be named as the directors of the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the brothers would fit into Marvel Studios’ strategy for finding ‘unorthodox’ filmmaker for their movies.

The Russos are known more for their work in comedy, having directed the box office bomb You, Me & Dupree on the big screen and and NBC’s critically acclaimed comedy Community on the small one.

According to the report, they beat off competition from the likes of George Nolfi, the former writer who made his directorial debut with The Adjustment Bureau, and F Gary Gray.

As yet, Marvel have refused to comment on the position.

But any incoming director would follow Joe Johnston, who helmed the first Captain America, which grossed $368 million world-wide and was one of several stand-alone superhero movies that paved the way for Marvel Avengers Assemble.
