Ryan Gosling in talks for Blade Runner sequel

RYAN Gosling is in talks to star in to star in the sequel to Blade Runner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Drive star would line-up alongside original star Harrison Ford, who will reprise his role as Rick Deckard.

Denis Villeneuve, of Prisoners fame, is directing from a script that has been co-written by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green, who came up with the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott, who is executive producing the new film.

As yet, plot details remain firmly under wraps but the story is said to take place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

That film, based on a short story by Philip K Dick, followed a man (Ford) working as a police operative who is tasked with chasing down and killing a group of renegade machines known as replicants who, in turn, are looking to extend their life-spans.

Principal photography on the keenly-anticipated sequel is due to start in the summer of 2016.

Gosling will next be seen in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys opposite Russell Crowe, as well as Terrence Malick’s Weightless.

He is currently in production starring opposite Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Steve Carrell in The Big Short.
