RYAN Gosling is uniting with writer-director duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller for space drama Project Hail Mary.

An adaptation of The Martian author Andy Weir’s forthcoming novel, which is due out in Spring 2021 from Random House, the story will focus on an astronaut on a spaceship that is tasked with saving the planet.

Gosling will play the lead. Ironically, his last big screen appearance was also space-themed – the 2018 biopic First Man, in which he starred as famed astronaut Neil Armstrong.

And Lord and Chris Miller are currently attached to direct another of Weir’s novels, Artemis, at Universal Pictures – although the Gosling thriller could go before the cameras first.

Lord and Miller are two of the hottest filmmaking properties in Hollywood right now, off the back of successes such as the 21 Jump Street movies and their involvement in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
