Ryan Reynolds in talks for Truth in Advertising

Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal

Story by Jack Foley

RYAN Reynolds is in final negotiations to star in dramedy Truth in Advertising.

To be directed by Roger Michell (of Notting Hill/Changing Lanes fame), the film would find Reynolds playing Fin Dolan, whose boss asks him to cancel his Christmas vacation to work on an ad campaign at the same time as his best friend announces that she has just been proposed to and his estranged father lands in the hospital.

The chain of events prompt Fin to begin to wonder why everyone else is moving forward with their lives while he is stuck in neutral.

The screenplay for the film was written by John Kenney, who adapted the script from his critically acclaimed debut novel of the same name, which was published in October 2013 by Simon & Schuster, and which saw him win the Thurber Prize for American Humor in 2014. The book takes a satirical look at corporate and consumer culture.

Principal photography is due to commence in the second quarter of 2016.

Truth In Advertising is described as one of the most highly sought after properties in the independent film market. Its acquisition was announced by the Solution Entertainment Group’s co-founders and partners, Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel, who are financing and producing the film alongside Lynn Hendee and William Chartoff.

Commenting on the project, Wilson and Nestel said: “John Kenney has adapted his genius novel beautifully and crafted a smart, funny modern tale which analyzes society’s obsession with consumerism.

“His script is in safe hands with Roger Michell who previously explored our media-crazed culture in Notting Hill. The charismatic Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role of the everyday advertising executive trying to find his way in a confusing world.”
