Sam Worthington to play Allan Quatermain

Story by Jack Foley

THERE’S just no stopping Sam Worthington’s hot streak at the moment. The Avatar star is now attached to play the eponymous Quatermain in a new sci-fi take on the literary hero.

The DreamWorks produced movie will be based on the character created by H. Rider Haggard, who appeared in King’s Solomon’s Mines and its sequel Allan Quatermain.

But rather than setting the action in Victorian times, the film will be set at a time when humans have left Earth, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Quatermain character will subsequently return to the planet to embark on a King Solomon’s Mines-style adventure on a planet-wide scale.

In addition to starring, Worthington will also be making his debut as producer and intends to start shooting soon after he’s completed The Fields, a thriller being directed by Ami Canaan Mann, the daughter of Michael Mann.

A director and support cast has yet to be found.

In addition to his record-breaking success as part of Avatar, Worthington was recently seen playing Perseus in the remake of Clash of the Titans, which has so far grossed more than $454 million worldwide.
