Samantha Barks and Susan Boyle for The Christmas Candle

SAMANTHA Barks and Susan Boyle are to star in period film The Christmas Candle, it has been announced.
Based on a novella by US preacher and author Max Lucado, the film is set in an 1890s English village where blessed candles answer people’s prayers. It will mark Boyle’s big screen debut, although it has yet to be revealed who she will be playing.
Former Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy, who was most recently seen in The Hobbit and Bafta-nominated star John Hannah will also appear in the movie.
Barks, an Isle of Man local, has just returned to the UK after performing One Day More from Les Miserables at the Oscars last weekend.
The film, in which she starred as Eponine, won three Academy Awards, including best supporting actress for Anne Hathaway.
