SCOTT Eastwood has joined the cast of Fast and Furious 8.

The actor, and son of legendary filmmaker and star Clint Eastwood, made the announcement via his Instagram account on Monday.

He posted: “Now I can’t say too much, but I get to play a new character who operates under Kurt Russell in the movie, which is incredible, because Kurt was a total childhood hero of mine growing up. Very much looking forward to learning a thing or two from such an original and cool guy.”

Eastwood joins fellow newcomer Charlize Theron, who will play the film’s villain, in the eighth instalment of the franchise, which will be directed by F Gary Gray.

The Universal film will also see the return of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson.

Eastwood has lined up multiple high profile projects in recent years, including The Longest Ride and World War II drama Fury alongside Brad Pitt.

He’ll also appear in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad, Oliver Stone’s Snowden with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ben Affleck’s Live By Night.

Fast and Furious 8 is set to be released on April 14, 2017.
