Doc Savage

Story by Jack Foley

SHANE Black has closed a deal to write and direct a Doc Savage movie.

The filmmaker was intending to bring his favourite hero to the screen prior to being enlisted to direct Iron Man 3. But he’s now going back to that project with the blessing of Sony Pictures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black co-wrote the screenplay with Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

Sony’s president of production Hannah Minghella in a statement: “We couldn’t be more excited to be building a franchise from the ground up with Shane and this team. Shane and Neal [H. Moritz, producer] have a fantastic understanding of the character and a great take on the material and we can’t wait to get this production up and running.”

Savage – aka the Man in Bronze – was a popular fixture on the radio and in magazines during the 1930s and ’40s.

He was known for possessing super-strength and was a master of disguise among many other skills.

The character has already featured in one movie starring Ron Ely in 1975.

Iron Man 3 is projected to be on course to hit $1 billion at the global box office, having recently enjoyed the second best opening of all time in America and out-pacing The Avengers in international markets. Find out more
