Shane Black to write and direct Predator reboot
Story by Jack Foley
SHANE Black is attached to write and direct a reboot to Predator.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black will write the treatment for the project before handing it over to Fred Dekker, his university colleague with whom he wrote 1987’s Monster Squad. He is also attached to direct.
The original Predator movie was released in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos being stalked in a jungle by a fearsome alien.
John McTiernan directed the film, which ironically featured Black in a minor role.
A Schwarzenegger-less sequel, Predator 2 (starring Danny Glover), followed in 1990, while Robert Rodriguez produced an installment of the franchise in 2010, Predators, featuring Adrien Brody.
In between, Fox also combined it with its Alien franchise for a couple of critically panned Alien vs. Predator movies released in 2004 and 2007, respectively.
Black is in hot demand following the phenomenal box office success of Iron Man 3. He is also developing a Doc Savage movie, which is an adaptation of the 1930s pulp hero. And he is trying to put together a cast for The Nice Guys, a 1970s crime movie that Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are reported to be circling.
