Shia LaBeouf and Robert De Niro set to unite for spy drama

Eagle Eye

Story by Jack Foley

SHIA LaBeouf and Robert De Niro are attached to a Catch Me If You Can-style thriller called Spy’s Kid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film would see the two stars playing a son-father spy duo in a story based on a six-part series of articles by Bryan Denson that were published in The Oregonian in 2011.

The articles in question told the true story of a traitorous spy who enlists his son to continue his work.

Jim Nicholson was a 20-year CIA veteran who was convicted of spying in 1996 and sentenced to 23 years in prison. He was the highest-ranking officer convicted of espionage.

However, in 2004 his youngest son, Nathan, began to seek advice from his father in an Oregon federal prison after leaving the Army and was subsequently coached in spycraft, thereby launching a second act of espionage from behind bars.

Nathan spent the ensuing year and a half travelling the world and selling secrets to the Russians.

Paramount is interested in distributing the film and is currently in talks with both De Niro and LaBeouf to secure deals. DJ Caruso is also being lined up to direct, which would mean reuniting with LaBeouf for the firs time since the pair worked together on Disturbia and Eagle Eye (pictured).

LaBeouf will shortly be seen on UK screens in Robert Redford’s new thriller, The Company You Keep, while De Niro – hot again following his Oscar nomination for Silver Linings Playbook – is now shooting David O. Russell’s latest picture after completing the boxing flick Grudge Match.
