Sigourney Weaver joins Liam Neeson on A Monster Calls
Story by Jack Foley
SIGOURNEY Weaver has joined the cast of A Monster Calls with Felicity Jones and Liam Neeson.
Adapted from Patrick Ness’ award-winning children’s fantasy novel, the film follows a young boy who attempts to deal with bullying at the hands of his classmates, and his mother’s terminal illness, by escaping into a fantasy world with the assistance of a tree monster.
Weaver will play the boy’s grandmother. The Aliens luminary recently turned down the chance to star in The Expendables spin-off Expendabelles.
Neeson is playing the titular monster, while Jones has been cast as the boy’s mother.
Having said no to Sylvester Stallone, Weaver still finds herself in hot demand. In addition to James Cameron’s Avatar sequels (which star filming next year), she recently completed Chappie, the latest sci-fi project from District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp, and will appear in Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, based on the story of Moses.
A Monster Calls is currently scheduled for a US release on October 14, 2016.
