THE Smurf movie has gained four stars, including Jonathan Winters, the 84-year-old veteran who voiced multiple characters on the long-running Hanna-Barbera cartoon version of the characters.

Winters will be joined by George Lopez, Katy Perry and Alan Cumming, as well as Neil Patrick Harris as the project’s live-action character.

According to Variety, pop singer Perry is in talks to portray Smurfette, while Alan Cumming is taking on Gutsy Smurf and George Lopez will be Grouchy Smurf.

The animation hybrid is being directed by Raja Gosnell, whose previous hits include Beverley Hills Chihuahua.

The Smurfs were created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, better known as Peyo, and have spawned a number of print and smallscreen incarnations worldwide.
