Snake Eyes commences production in Japan - watch launch footage

Snake Eyes

Story by Jack Foley

THE cast and crew of Snake Eyes, the next instalment in Paramount’s GI Joe series, held an event in Japan last week to announce the start of production on the 2020 action thriller.

Robert Schwentke is to direct the film, having previously blended action and comedy with Red, which also teamed Bruce Willis with Helen Mirren Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich. He also worked on The Divergent series.

He intends to re-introduce Snake Eyes to a new generation of moviegoers.

Snake Eyes has long been one of the cooler characters in the GI Joe franchise, despite not being a character known for his words. Rather, he lives by his sword and made a strong impression as part of the last GI Joe film, Retaliation in 2013.

The launch event saw cast and crew attend in Japan for interviews and photos.

This included leading man Henry Golding, as well as Andrew Koji, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira and Iko Uwais (of The Raid fame).

Director Schwentke, executive producers Jeff Waxman and Erik Howsam and stunt co-ordinator Kenji Tanigaki were also present.

Snake Eyes is due to be released in UK cinemas later in 2020.
