Spider-Man 3: Maguire hints at farewell
Story by Jack Foley
SPIDER-MAN 3 could well be the last film that Tobey Maguire appears in, if rumours are to be believed.
According to a report on movie website IMDB, Tobey Maguire has confirmed that the upcoming Spider-Man 3 will mark the last time he plays the superhero.
And he was backed by co-star Kirsten Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson, who is also reported to have said that she feels the third film will be the last in the franchise.
According to Maguire, the third film feels like “a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie”.
“It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end,” he added.
But the film’s director, Sam Raimi, has offered fans some hope that they may continue, particularly as Spider-Man fans are licking their lips at the prospect of seeing more of Venom in a possible fourth instalment.
In a recent interview, Raimi confirmed that he is “seriously considering” a fourth film – although he couldn’t imagine doing it without his stars Maguire, Dunst or James Franco.
He commented: “I love Spider-Man and I love working with Kirsten, Tobey and James Franco. I just have to make sure that when I’m done with Spider-Man 3 I’m still fascinated with the character.
“At this moment I’m fascinated with him.”
I guess Spidey fans will have to watch this space!
