Spider-Man 3 to have Tribeca premiere

Spider-Man 3

Story by Jack Foley

SPIDER-MAN 3 is to have its US premiere at the end of April at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

The keenly-anticipated movie will make its US debut on April 30 at the UA Kaufman Astoria cinema in Queens – the home borough of Spider-Man‘s alter ego Peter Parker.

In what promises to be a spectacular culmination to a week of events, a marching band will lead stars such as Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst down a black carpet.

The city will also host a Spider-Man week in honour of the comic book character, including catch-up screenings of the first two films, a themed exhibition and a Spider-Man rap contest.

The world premiere is due to take place in Tokyo on April 16 and the US gala will mark the climax of a series of eight premieres around the world, including one in London on April 23.

Members of the public will have the chance to see it when the film opens around the globe between May 1 and 4 (the latter day in the UK).

Commenting on the New York events Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro, told the BBC: “Bringing exciting and new events to NYC and its community is one of the major goals of the festival.

“Hosting the US premiere in Queens and celebrating the release throughout the festival will give us the opportunity to reach out to a new community, as well as to the devoted fan-base of the Spider-Man series.”

The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 26 to May 7 and was set up by De Niro and Ms Rosenthal in the wake of the September 11 attacks to help revitalise lower Manhattan. It continues to grow in prominence each year and is now considered one of the most important filmgoing events in the calendar.
