Star Wars

Story by Jack Foley

GARETH Edwards’s stand-alone Star Wars film has been named Rogue One and has been given a release date of December 16, 2016.

The film is the first in a series of big-screen adventures exploring characters from the core Star Wars saga, which will arrive in addition to the new trilogy currently being completed by JJ Abrams.

In addition, Rian Johnson has been asked to write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will follow on from Star Wars: The Force Awakens (out later this year) and which is due for release on May 26, 2017.

Very little is known about Edwards’ film, except that it stars British actress Felicity Jones – most recently Oscar-nominated for her role alongside Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything.

It is due to egin shooting this summer in London.

Edwards made his name directing the low-budget monster flick Monsters before graduating to the big leagues with last year’s Godzilla reboot.
