Star Wars: Episode IX gets summer 2019 release date

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Story by Jack Foley

DISNEY and Lucasfilm have given Star Wars: Episode IX a release date of May 24, 2019.

The third entry into the new Star Wars trilogy will break with formula to open in early summer, as opposed to the Christmas period that both The Force Awakens and forthcoming sequel The Last Jedi have opted for – as well as last year’s stand-alone, Rogue One.

Very little is known about Episode IX save for the fact that Colin Trevorrow, of Jurassic World fame, is directing and co-writing the script with Derek Connolly.

It has also been confirmed that the late Carrie Fisher will not appear in the film as Princess Leia.

The May release date ought to come as good news for fans of the franchise given that – if the date holds – there will be less of a gap between The Last Jedi and Episode IX than the two years between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Disney has also announced the date for its still untitled Han Solo spin-off – May 25, 2018.
