Stormbreaker - Alex Pettyfer interview
Compiled by Jack Foley
ALEX Pettyfer, the young star of Stormbreaker, about winnng such a coveted role and some of the physical challenges he faced while filming.
Q. Are you prepared for this role to make you a heartthrob for teenage girls everywhere?
Alex Pettyfer: I don’t think about that yet. But hopefully, touch wood.
Q. How did you get the role?
Alex Pettyfer: I was the first person they saw, and oddly enough the last person too. I went through this gruelling process of audition after audition. I finally got to the stage where I thought I couldn’t face another one, but that was when they offered me the role. It was fantastic.
Q. Were you already a fan of Anthony Horowitz’s books?
Alex Pettyfer: I was, I’d read Stormbreaker and Point Blanc and thought they were both great. Anthony is a terrific writer and he made the screenplay for Stormbreaker even better than the book.
Q. Describe some of the things you get to do in the film?
Alex Pettyfer: How many days can you drive a quad bike at 70 miles an hour on a runway, with about 40 assorted vehicles chasing you and firing machine guns at you? And then there was a 120 mph cargo helicopter coming towards me, and I had to skid as it went over and shoot a thing that would pull me 120 foot into the air. That was the biggest adrenaline rush.
Q. There must have been an adrenaline rush too working with some your illustrious co-stars, wasn’t there?
Alex Pettyfer: In my eyes, they’re some of the best actors working today. People like Bill Nighy and Mickey Rourke and Ewan McGregor. It was fantastic to work with such a great cast and a fantastic crew. I learnt so much from them.
Q. Away from the screen what do you enjoy best at school?
Alex Pettyfer: Everything, I love PE, I love English. You’ve got to take school with a knock on the chin because it’s gearing you up for real life.
Q. And sport?
Alex Pettyfer: Skiing, tennis, all round sports. That’s what set me up for the physical side of Alex. But there were so many physical things that he has to do in the movie that I still had to train pretty hard.
Q. Is acting something you want to continue when you leave school?
Alex Pettyfer: Of course, I love it. I love bringing characters to life and I love what I do.
Q. What are the downsides to the job?
Alex Pettyfer: You have to sleep sometime. With acting I always want stay awake and keep at it.

OMG!!! I’ve loved Alex Pettyfer from when I first laid eyes on him in Tom Brown's Schooldays. He’s a real talent and an amazing actor. He will be in A LOT of films! All the girls love him and all they guys wanna be him. Me and my mate were sitting in the cinema watching Stormbreaker wanting to marry him! Stormbreaker is such a good film - 5 stars. He fits the part perfectly and the film was real good. I only wanted to see it cause he was in it but the film was excellent. I used to not like action films but after I’ve seen this one I do. This is the fifth time I’ve seen it - that's how much I love the film. He’s such a kind heart and really HOT! I realy wanna work with him, plus he’s got that English accent that I LOVE xxxxxx

chloe Jul 29 #OMG!! I saw the film the day it came out with my friend and we couldn't take our eyes off the screen. After that I was running around looking for pics of him!! Alex is perfect for the role and I can't get enough of him, best of luck in the future!
gemz Jul 29 #Saw the film today, absolutely AMAZING. I’m not one for action films except for the odd Jackie Chan movie, but this was incredible. Given that it’s a 14 yr old in the action instead of an adult for once, it makes room for audiences like me, other teenangers and young children for once. I read Stormbreaker with my class last year and thought it was a gripping book, but I hadn’t touched the others in the series. Since the break of the film, I really want to get my hands on another of Anthony’s action books! Alex was a great actor, performing so many cool stunts of his own – I bet it was an awesome experience for him and I can’t wait to see another Anthony Horowitz book make it’s way on screen with Alex Pettyfer. You’ve done fantastic so far, keep going and good luck with the next film. xXx
emma Jul 31 #I also think Alex is handsome
