Taylor Swift joins Meryl Streep on The Giver
Story by Jack Foley
TAYLOR Swift has joined the cast of The Giver alongside Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges.
The singer-songwriter also lines up alongside True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Brenton Thwaites, Odeya Rush (of The Odd Life of Timothy Green fame) and Cameron Monaghan (of Shameless).
Based on the popular young adult novel by Lois Lowry, The Giver stars Thwaites as a young boy who is selected for life service as the Receiver of Memories.
He works with The Giver (Bridges), an old man who teaches the boy to use his sensory gifts.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Streep will play the antagonistic Chief Elder, who assigns the young their tasks and Holmes will play Thwaites’ character’s mother. It has not yet been stated who Swift will play.
The film is set in a society in which there is no sickness, conflict or racism.
Philip Noyce, of Salt and Patriot Games fame, will direct with shooting due to commence in Cape Town, South Africa, in October.
