CREED star Tessa Thompson and Zoe Kravitz are in the running to land the female lead in Disney’s as-yet untitled Han Solo spin-off movie.

According to sources quoted by industry magazine Variety, both actresses tested for the role in London this week. They are joined on the shortlist by Power Rangers star Naomi Scott.

Co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are said to be deliberately taking their time with the role and are also on the hunt for an actor to play a young Lando Calrissian. Solo’s friend was played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Atlanta star and creator Donald Glover is said to be high on the list for this one.

Production on the movie is not scheduled to begin until early 2017, with plot details being kept firmly under wraps.

According to the report on Variety, this is the second round of tests to have taken place. The first took place in the summer. A decision and announcement is still not expected for at least a couple of weeks.

Thompson, whose other credits include Selma, shot to prominence alongside Michael B Jordan in Rocky spin-off Creed. She has since landed a key role in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Kravitz’s film credits include the Divergent film series as well as Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: First Class.

The Han Solo stand-alone movie is currently due for release in cinemas on May 25, 2018
