So here, without further ado, is Ellen’s list of the 10 most stylish British actors of the moment…

1) Eddie Redmayne

Birdsong

Given his ex-model credentials it’s no surprise Mr Redmayne knows how to rock an exceptionally tailored suit.

Whether stepping out in a teal velvet Burberry number, (for whom he modeled their S/S 12 campaign alongside Cara Delevigne) navy Dior or tan Topman tweed, the baby-faced Brit always bravely opts for bold hues and textures.

2) Bill Nighy

Billy Nighy in The Boat That Rocked

Ever the dapper gent, Bill Nighy is both a British style and acting institution. Only ever wearing blue suits (who knew?) his limited wardrobe principles certainly don’t compromise his ability to look razor-sharp.

“I have a phobia of linen. You can never trust a man in a linen suit,” he claims. And who can argue with that?

3) Jamie Campbell Bower

Jamie Campbell Bower

Rarely seen without his Holy Trinity of distressed denim, beanie and scarf, when Jamie Campbell Bower scrubs-up for a premiere, his relaxed, punked-up take on tailoring is always en pointe.

Quite possibly taking style cues from his Sweeney Todd co-star, Johnny Depp, the artfully disheveled (and well-pierced) actor never strays too far from his rebellious, luxe-tramp look with a rock n’ roll edge.

4) Benedict Cumberbatch

Star Trek Into Darkness

With a style as quintessentially British as his name, Benedict Cumberbatch is never anything less than immaculately turned out. A big fan of Spencer Hart suits and incongruently throwing on a silk or striped scarf, his timeless, minimal looks are the definition of understated chic.

The secret to the Sherlock Holmes actor’s style? Why it’s elementary, my dear Watson.

5) Gary Oldman

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Self-confessedly devoted to Paul Smith’s colourful tailoring, the iconic Gary Oldman never puts a step out of style. Walking Miuccia Prada’s A/W 12 menswear show, the Tinker Tailor actor looked effortlessly imperial in an Edwardian Frock coat.

Discreet and oh-so chic, Oldman always punctuates his look with his trademark clear-rimmed spectacles.

6) Dev Patel

Dev Patel

From Slumdog to Saville Row right to the heart of The Newsroom, Dev Patel is all grown-up and has a style to match.

Oft spotted on the ‘Frow’ at Fashion Week, the geek-to-sleek actor is rarely out of a sober yet smart suit. Of course, having Frida Pinto glued to his arm helps…

7) Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield in The Social Network

Who wouldn’t be always immaculately dressed when you have the world’s leading international fashion houses on speed-dial? Now an international superstar thanks to the Spiderman franchise, Andrew Garfield is courted left, right and centre by all the likes of Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana.

Always favouring a lean-cut skinny suit (it must be that Spidey lycra) Garfield isn’t afraid to flirt with plaid, texture and eye-popping hues of cranberry or magenta.

8) Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Aaron Johnson in Nowhere Boy

One half of the art-acting Taylor-Johnson power-couple, Aaron has emerged from child-actor to fully-fledged thespian and style icon.

Looking dapper with a curly halo of hair in Prada’s S/S 13 campaign, the Nowhere Boy‘s bohemian, off-beat threads ensure he’s dressing to his own unique tune.

9) Tom Sturridge

Tom Sturridge

Formerly better known for being the arm-candy of Sienna Miller, Tom Sturridge is finally carving out his acting credentials and recently won an Annual Theatre World award.

One part dandy to two parts indie-urchin, Sturridge’s quirky get-ups are loaded with personality whether he’s on the red carpet or off-duty. Christopher Bailey clearly approves as he cast him and Ms Miller in his up-and-coming A/W 13 Burberry campaign.

10) Douglas Booth

Douglas Booth

Young heartthrob Douglas Booth is quickly becoming a contender for most stylish Brit actor. The chiseled jaw and tousled locks certainly help, of course.

Mixing up tougher biker statements with immaculately groomed suiting, the 21-year-old is obviously still exploring his style but always nails a refined-yet-casual vibe.
